About the concert: The Jazz~String Quintet draws inspiration from both jazz
and classical music. The music for this concert, written and arranged by Gailloreto,
incorporates both jazz and classical elements in a traditional concert setting.
Their performances have been critically acclaimed as..."resolutely tonal, idiom-blending
works that would win back listeners........" , (Chicago Tribune). The members
of the Jazz~String Quintet are Katherine Hughes and Mark Agnor on violin, Ben
Wedge on viola and Jill Kaeding on cello, Jim Gailloreto on saxophone.
Kathy Kelly's New Vibrafon ensemble is an extension of her work for jazz quartet.
For this concert she has added violinist Zach Brock and frame drummer Danny
Faith to the ensemble. The group will premiere two new works by Kelly, as well
as presenting some of her older works with a new instrumentation. Cadence Magazine
says Kelly plays with "a fluid improvisational style that combines coolness
with intricate details". Besides Kathy Kelly on vibes the group features Dave
Onderdonk on guitar, Dan DeLorenzo on bass, Ryan Bennett on drums, along with
Zach Brock on violin and Danny Faith on frame drums.
